Sunrise in autumn in North Carolina is actually a reasonable hour at around 7:00 a.m. (still on Daylight Savings Time). I was hoping for fog in the forest and was initially disappointed when I left the hotel that the clouds were low but not low enough. Nevertheless, when we reached the Blue Ridge Parkway, I could see we were in for a different kind of sunrise. The low clouds sandwiched the sun above the mountains. A few scattered cloud banks added atmosphere in the foreground. I got up at 5:00 a.m. to drive up to the Pounding Mill Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway to photograph the sunrise. Fog filled the valley in this part of Pisgah National Forest, which includes the Cradle of Forestry in America.I love the shadows cast by the trees on top of the fog and the diffuse light about thirty minutes after sunrise.Date: 16 July 2021Location: Transylvania County, North Carolina, United StatesOriginal resolution: 45 MPProcessing: Processed from RAW using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic 10
We were staying across the street from the Little Lagoon in Gulf Shores, and I decided to walk over and photograph this backwater area at sunset. It turned out to be the only good sunset of the week.Date: 21 June 2020Location: Gulf Shores, Alabama, United StatesOriginal resolution: 24 MPProcessing: Processed from RAW using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic 9

We had been touring the Île D'Orleans all day in an occasional drizzle. I kept watching the weather forecast, which promised clearing around sunset. Sure enough, the clouds did clear, and we watched this magnificent sunset from Sainte-Petronille over the Saint Lawrence.Date: 4 October 2018Location: Sainte-Pétronille, Québec, CanadaOriginal resolution: 36 MPProcessing: Processed from RAW using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic CC 7

On a misty fall day, the New River snakes north through its gorge south of the Grandview overlook.
I got up at 5:00 a.m. to drive up to the Pounding Mill Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway to photograph the sunrise. The view in this photo is looking southeast over the Cradle of Forestry in America during the golden hour. I used a longer crop to put more emphasis on the fog in the valley than on the forests below, which are still heavily shadowed.Date: 16 July 2021Location: Transylvania County, North Carolina, United StatesOriginal resolution: 45 MPProcessing: Processed from RAW using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic 10
I drove over to the Cataloochee Valley in Great Smoky Mountains National Park on a rainy day looking for wildlfie. While there, I noticed the fog in the trees, which created a nice atmosphere for this landscape.I combined two images to create a small panorama. I like the way the treelines on each side lead the eye to the foggy hills.Date: 19 July 2021Location: Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina, United StatesOriginal resolution: 45 MPProcessing: Processed from RAW using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic 9
